When I arrived at SAM, their members magazine was more like a brochure of upcoming events. Working with the Creative Director and Senior Designer, I helped reimagine the magazine as a magazine.
Filled with high-impact images and a variety of art news, in-depth previews of upcoming exhibitions, interviews with curators (and a calendar of upcoming events—we preserved that, but confined it to one spread!), the new SAM magazine delivers content three times a year.
For each issue, I worked with museum leadership to plan the editorial calendar. I collaborated with graphic designers on concepts for layouts and nontraditional spreads ("What if this is a teaser instead of an article? What if this is a Q&A?"). I frequently interviewed multiple curators, artists, and other experts as well as doing extensive research. From 5-word blurbs to 700-word articles, I worked on the magazine from cover to cover.
But don't take my word for it...
